THE BIG MYSTERY
My work is simple.
I open Pandora’s Box.
In this book, powerful secrets fly out of a particular Pandora’s Box I found a long time ago. While I am a Mason and Knight Templar, my work offers secrets that these societies do not possess. Yet, had I not worked and traveled in Masonic lands, I would not have seen parts of the larger pattern unfold. For example, after working in Masonry, I was able to morph the mysterious symbol of the Masonic Pyramid into the new pyramid shown above. My pyramid is called the Day Dream Pyramid. This pyramid is the Pandora’s Box I will open. From out of this box will fly secrets such as what caused the Big Bang and why religions contain only fragmentary images and information about Infinity.
We begin by asking a perennial question: Who or What caused our Universe to appear? The attempts to solve the Big Mystery include the 3,500-year-old Book of Genesis and the sophisticated physics that inform Big Bang cosmology. The debate over our origins has divided Humanity for millennia. At present, there are two main models of how our Universe began. These models are Divine Creation and the Big Bang.

Divine Creation is a supernatural explanation for the origin of the Universe. There are several different versions of Divine Creation. The most commonly held view of Creation is that a single Creator-God spoke our Universe into existence. Within the monotheistic religions of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, God is said to have the ability to speak things into existence from nothing. While these three religions share the basic view of Divine Creation as described in the Book of Genesis, each one worships a different God. The Gods of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam are not the same God. Ask a Jew, a Christian, or a Muslim if they share the same God and they will say no. The Pentateuch, New Testament, and the Qur'an describe a monotheistic, but in radically different terms. As we will see, these different points of view about God reveal something that is never considered within monotheistic religion.
Because each of these religions has a different God, each of these religions has its own unique set of scriptures that contain “God’s law” as revealed to humanity through prophets. That each of these three religion claims to be the sole representative of the “One True God” has been, and continues to be, the basis of endless bloodshed, political struggle, and a ferocious fight with Atheism. The implications of how our Universe began are enormous, particularly with respect to the power, wealth, aggression, and influence that are embodied within Judaism, Christianity, and Islam.
Unlike Divine Creation, the Big Bang is a purely physical explanation for the origin of the Universe that does not require a God to explain anything. As such, the Big Bang is an Atheistic account of the origins of the Universe. There are differing schools of thought concerning the Big Bang. This book refers to what is called the “standard model” of the Big Bang. In simple terms, the standard model describes a mysterious singularity that contained within it all of the time, space, matter and energy that now fills our Universe. The appearance of the singularity is left unexplained because it cannot be explained at present by Science.
The term “Big Bang” describes a high-energy event during which the singularity “exploded” and hyper-expanded into the super-dense, super-hot early Universe. After some period, the super-dense early Universe cooled down and expanded sufficiently to allow matter to aggregate into the first generation galaxies. These galaxies and their stars died off. In doing so, they formed the metals and gases that were hurled off into space when stars exploded. The fundamental forces in the cosmos aggregated this matter and formed it into new galaxies, stars, nebulae, and planets. The simplistic diagram below represents our Universe expanding and evolving from the Big Bang forward. In the illustration below, we represent the primeval quark plasma converting into early matter, light, stars, and galaxies via E=MC². The three black disks represent the generations of stars and galaxies since the beginning of time.

The physical Big Bang model conceives of Earth as being a product of the stellar evolution. Over time, gasses, metals, water, and minerals aggregated into a disc that was early our solar system. The forces at work formed our Sun and its planets. Once Earth cooled down and an atmosphere formed, the processes of stellar evolution spontaneously began. Matter was transformed into simple forms of life by the processes of biological evolution. Over geological time scales, natural selection is said to have taken simple life forms and increasingly evolved then into highly intelligent and highly ordered structures such as DNA. In turn, DNA became the basis of ever more increasingly complex life forms. Hominids appeared and from our early genetic ancestors, human eventually evolved.
Natural selection is driven by the environment: Whatever can adapt to its environment will survive and reproduce itself. Whatever cannot adapt will die off. Early organisms transmitted cellular information with each generation. Adaptations in structures happened over long periods. The Earth in its present form is rich in biological life that emerged from a long evolutionary series of events that Science broadly traces back to the Big Bang. This book recognizes that there are intellectual challenges to the Big Bang model. However, these challenges, which include inflation and baryogenesis, are outside of the scope of this book. The standard model of the Big Bang is accepted for the purposes of this work. The outdated Steady State theory is also not considered in this book.
Left unexplained in the various Big Bang models is what caused the Big Bang. To speculate about the cause of the Big Bang presently calls for metaphysical speculation, an activity disallowed in Science. When Science wishes to indulge in metaphysics, it usually does so by using Science Fiction or very large numbers. Science Fiction allows people to safely play “what if” games and not call it Science. Furthermore, if one inserts enough zeroes into a given hypothesis, then the odds in favor the hypothesis improve dramatically; a billion billion zeroes give any hypothesis much better odds than one billion zeroes.
Evolution, which is informed by scienticism, has become the main tool used by many in Science to negate God and Religion. Some scientists use popular books to argue against the existence of God and in favor of Evolution. The God Delusion, written by the esteemed Dr. Richard Dawkins of Oxford, is currently the preeminent popular book devoted to debunking God and Divine Creation. Intelligent, aggravating, and hilarious, Saint Richard the Darwin-Hearted charges forth and slays many of the improbable dragons of Monotheism that assail his sensibilities with their Old Testament wrath.
My book makes landfall somewhere between Religion and Science, for in opening Pandora’s Box, I present an alternative to both Divine Creation and the Big Bang. I use three different terms to describe my alternative:
TechnoMysticism: This term refers to my work as a fusion of Technology and Mysticism. Having worked professionally in technical writing and technical sales for thirty years for companies including Hughes Aircraft, Philips, and Siemens, I have gained a deep appreciation for Science and Technology. I have a Bachelor’s degree in English. I began my career as a technical writer at Hughes Aircraft. However, most of my career has been spent in general, technical, and medical lighting. I have worked with lasers, endoscopes, UV-C air and water disinfection, and spectrophotometers and many other specialized lighting and photonics devices.
In contrast to my technical work, I have been drawn to Mysticism since the beginning of my life. The first thing I remember in this life was awakening from a past life. I had other intense psychic experiences as a child. These experiences have continued throughout my life. It took a long time to understand the experiences and my destiny: I am a natural born Mystic. That is why I am writing this book. As a young man, I became a devoted Christian. I was part of the original Jesus People in Orange County, California in the early 1970’s. I saw Calvary Chapel in the tent, had long hair, did street preaching, and received my education at Vanguard University of Southern California in Costa Mesa, a scant few blocks from Calvary Chapel.
Third Option Cosmology: To hear some people argue origins, one must choose either Divine Creation or the Big Bang. This approach demands that people choose Religion or Science. This is an absurd demand. I present the unique Third Option I discovered as a way to expand the debate between Creationists and Big Bangers.
DX Teaching: My book presents a new cosmology. In doing so, it opens a box full of new ideas that challenge the basis of conventional religious thinking and beliefs. You will see me use the term “DX” many times in this book. The term is pronounced “day” and refers to the event that preceded the Big Bang. One of the questions I answer in this book is the one that asks, “What caused the Big Bang?”
One of the wisest things I
have ever learned was spoken of by Søren Kierkegaard:
"Life must be lived forward, but
can only be understood backwards.”
Only because I am fifty-two years old as I write this on my son Erik’s 18th birthday in December 2009 can I understand what Kierkegaard meant. I had no idea what Kierkegaard meant when I first read his words when I was eighteen. Only by having lived forward, only by losing my faith and having unreservedly entered the Void for a long time, was I able to look backwards and see Infinity. Many people have seen Infinity from innumerable points of view. I am not alone. William Blake (1757–1827) said:
What I will present in this book is
Infinity from my point of view. To do this requires two simple
techniques. The first is deconstruction. Deconstruction simply
means that we take things apart to see what they are made of.
The other key tool is to look backwards at history and our own
lives to see how things unfolded into our present situation.
I have seen for myself what William Blake and
so many others have seen. What kept me from seeing Infinity were
the various beliefs I held about myself, God, and the meaning of
Life. For the most part, my beliefs limited me. I had been
taught to think that I had to be someone and something other
than myself. Yet, as my life unfolded and expanded, my barriers,
beliefs, and preconceived ideas were all challenged.
Furthermore, I became quite willing to expand far beyond my own
belief system in order to discover my true meaning and purpose.
Just as Space is expanding and accelerating, so too is the human psyche on a personal and collective level. Humanity is expanding and our Religious structures are breaking apart under the force of our expansion. The smart religious systems are reinventing themselves to remain relevant. The inflexible religious systems are growing more hostile and violent in the face of changes that their ancient worldviews cannot tolerate.
Judaism, Christianity, and Islam each assert that their respective Gods created the Universe. Christianity and Islam in particular insist that they should make the rules on behalf of their Gods. These ancient belief systems retain staggering power for a reason: Their Gods are real and actually exist. The reality of these Divinities is an important part of what we later discuss in this book.
While I criticize Religion in this book, I do so from the perspective of a person who has been religious for their entire life and remains so. Life has mystical, mythical and spiritual qualities. It is perfectly acceptable and rational for people to believe in and worship their God, to believe in angels and demons, the Supernatural, Multiverses, and everything else. There is a deeper reality to Life than the physical Universe. Religion attempts to understand the deeper reality of Life. Yet, when Religion combines itself with politics it becomes an ugly, brutal, and irresponsible force. Religion has always wanted to conquer the World and force its beliefs on nonbelievers. The desire for Conquest of the human mind and the World itself is one of the central problems of Religion.
The violence of Religion destroys its Beauty and Sacredness. Religion has approached a crossroads where it must choose between Sacredness and Compassion or Violence. These unlike pairs cannot be reconciled; there is no such thing as Sacred Violence. Murder, lies, and politics are not a part of God’s Sacredness.
The five billion religious adherents of Earth deserve much better treatment than their religious leaders are giving them. That is why Believers should consider looking backwards even further into Infinity.
(Note: My total for religious adherents is derived from adding the numbers shown at Adherents.com. This remarkable website offers statistics on the religions of the world.)
